OOOoohhh... and i finished up my Granny Squares!! this quilt will take me much longer to finish up, since i've decided to hand quilt it... but it deserves the respect i think! LOL

and i'll have PLENTY of TV programs to listen too while i do it too!! :P

When i saw this quilt on Pinterest... i was in love! heart palpitating l.O.V.E. and ever since, the Granny Squares are on fire! at my home and in others!!

now, i'm sure it may have a little to do with my skill level... that does not include the ability to crochet. however, i just don't think so...

the additional perk to this design... i get to raid my stash for lots of color ( i even added in reds & pinks! )!!

Between finishing up this beauty and all the fabulous TV show ideas!!!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! I feel pretty balanced between my two love affairs... hand & machine sewing right now!!

I've been very lucky to have participated in a couple wonderful sewing bees and one of them ( huge thanks to my [Bee]-eautiful girls ) made me these lovely spiderweb blocks ( by far one of my most favorite quilt blocks to look at!! period! ). so, when you add THAT little ditty to the fact, that most of you know i'm a complete book worm too... i think, it's the winning combo to inspire more reading of classic novels during the summer months!!...

it even received a "real" quilting job... from my fabulous friend, Angela, finishing the whimsical feel... she really brought an additional layer of richness to this quilt and i owe her one seriously, stiff drink for THAT... during spring market!! LOL ( okay, maybe two drinks! )

I had so much fun designing this quilt from a book... what one would you choose???... i've even thought about making a Twilight one! I know, it's a bit dated now... but, it's what got me loving all my saucy Romance-Fantasy books! LOL

i only had, but just a few minutes to spare this weekend to sew... and i think we all know have plenty i could do ( hahaha ), but what would you do if you had to choose??

for me, i just bypassed it all and made those darling flour sack patchwork towels that have been floating around in my head for awhile. and damn it... they really turned out super pimp, so i think i chose wisely! i am so random ( admittedly ), but i love me so... whateves! LOL

no, i didn't make a dent in my stacks... but, these are just too cute to care... and at $3.00 for a pack of them, how could i really go wrong here??

wull... hello, distractions!

my friend, Distraction, comes by every once in awhile ( uninvited of coarse ) and usually stays way too long! It's like he can sense i'm waiting on a couple things to arrive before i can finish up some projects, so he spins me around like a child, almost dizzy from all the randomness!!

Sometimes you have to let your head fall back and enjoy the ride, i guess!! LOL

like picking up an old project and playing with it again...

deciding on lot's of new hobbies and then needing to educate yourself on them...

teaching yourself how to cross stitch...

shopping for super cute fabric...

and finally, figuring out the mystery of my exercise/ weight loss dilemma ( and yes, i realize this is no Nancy Drew novel! hahaha ) turns out my lady friend also showed up for a visit! pesky drop ins!! :P

Thanks for all the helpful advice, i learned a ton and i just kept at it until i moved through that damn stall!!! :)

However, this week... i better finish something stat or i may start to get a bit pissy!! ;)

One of the things i swore i was going to do this 2012 was to start up my running program again! Last year went great... until i thought i was 18 again and ended up getting shin splints so bad i thought i'd vomit first, then die.

This time i came in with a Jeff Galloway plan and things have been successful, i was even loosing some lovely Christmas flub that i'd acquired... and then, 4 days ago everything just stopped! not the running and the reasonable food intake ( which is minus booze... lame'o )... but, the weight loss??? WTH??

Now, i'm too depressed to even brush my gritty teeth ( that may be a tad dramatic, but you get the idea! )... all, i could even think to sew this week was a flippin { Hope } block.

if you all have any words of wisdom... today would be the day i'd really lOVE to hear them! sigh.... crossing my fingers this will end soon!!! ;(

that make me so happy!! :) I'm not really a fancy pants type of girl, but adding a sprinkling of fantastic through my home... sure does add some spice! for example... i saw this this on Pinterest ( which i stalk!! ) and just knew i needed him!! and i must say... i love him a. l.o.t!!

does it help that he's made of some of my most fav fabrics right now... Yarn-dyed Essex Linen and Ruby Star Shining... yeah, probably!! LOL

OOohh... and it was my 13th wedding Anniversary this weekend, so i got myself all gussied up! ( this is currently a lot of effort, since i'm running again and never putting my face on afterwards! LOL )

the boy toy even surprised me with some more of my favorite books... which made my heart skip a beat! who knew that meeting your hubby at 17 and 17 years later... he could still do that??!! ;)

Crush Coins!!

AMAZING!!! Robert Kaufman's new Yarn-Dyed Essex Linen fabrics are too unreal to believe! as you all know i'm a bit of a whipped puppy for their Essex Linen... but, these new fabrics are so stinking soft... i could cry!! Seriously, i'm totally not messing with you all!! LOL

i decided it was a "must use" in a Project Linus quilt, so... here's number 2!! I used 2 charm pack of Anna Maria Horner's Innocent Crush fabric line ( which is one of my all time fav's ) to make my coins and presto!! a super soft, vibrant quilt that i hope will be greatly loved!!

and since i've been such a good girl... i treated myself to a few little treats! OOohh... the possibilities! hehehe...

i hope you all having a blast this week! my boys finally went back to school... so, this mama is in one hell of a good mood!! LOL

Modern Whimsy!

Yay! i was able to finish up my first Project Linus quilt top this weekend with the fabulous Modern Whimsy!!... such a fabulous line for a special baby and family who could use a little "pick me up"!! i had a blast putting this top together, Ashley's tutorial really makes them come together quickly... but with a pop of design! i really suggest you all put it on your "must tries"... it's a serious keeper!

OOohhh... and i think i'm going to order some lovely flannel to back this quilt with... maybe in that yummy lime?? :P

i may even make a couple other sweet treats from this line for Easter too! the Ducks ( i think they look more like swans myself, but whateves... hahaha... ) are to die for and let's not even mention the circles! yep, i'm in fabric love... sigh...

it's usually this time of year that we all take a good, strong look at ourselves ( and our lives ) to see what we can improve. i know my Christmas ass has been on the treadmill this past week (let's just keep it real)!! but, a good friend of my mine reminded me of another way we could improve ourselves... charities!

i love my friend for always reminding me of how thankful i am for what i have been given and how there are always people who could use a little support sometimes. i've done a lot of charity work in the past, but i have a couple plans for this year that i'm super excited about!

first is making baby quilts for Project Linus!! this is such an amazing charity that i can easily support through out the year and hopefully make a small difference in a family's life during a rough time!! :)

Laurie Wisbrun's new fabric line Modern Whimsy by Robert Kaufman is a perfect fabric line to start with ( in my opinion... hahaha ) so, i'm off! I'm hoping for at least 6 quilts that i can give this year, but i'm really wanting to give 10! cross your fingers, k!!

OOOhhhh.. and i did whoop up a couple more Civil War Diary blocks... still loving them! sigh....

i'd love to hear how you all are going to improve your already great lives!

they're a few things about this new year that i'm super excited about and one of them is my exploration of interpretation quilts. ( mind you... they probably have some kind of other... super clever name that i don't know! hahaha ) but, basically they are my designs inspired by places i love. and i lOVE my hometown Portland, Oregon! You'll find a very modern city, with an industrial edge, some cloudy days... but an overall a peaceful place to live. well... that how i hope i conveyed it anyways!! LOL

this is the first wall hanging, i have EVER hung in my home and i'm pretty excited about it!

i'm already very excited to start on another piece... :)

i hate head colds! not only do you look like a hot mess, but your brain actually feels like slimy snot and let's not even mention what your breath smells like! sooOOOoo FRIGGIN gross!! i'm still totally stuck in sick-ville, but i did finally get to put together a few more blocks without fear of sewing my fingers together!

these little puppies are super fun, i'm finding that tracing and coloring my freezer paper templates at night while the boy's are busy... being boys, really helps to whip them out when my eyes can still stitch a straight line! LOL

I've been thinking a lot about 2012 and my personal sewing goals that i'd like to pull off lately!! I feel pretty comfortable that i'm not the only one doing this right now either! LOL And, one of the main "Bummer's" of 2011 year for me, was that i didn't do a single quilt-a-long! not in any way... no participation, period! sooOOOOo lame! :(

So this year, i've given it a lot of thought and i've decided to run one ( with friends of course!!). I'm a bit bad at the whole "have to do it RIGHT NOW" kind of quilt alongs, hence a "work at your own pace" one sounds just perfect to me! hehehe...

I also, really liked the idea of a Sampler Quilt like the most beloved Farmer's Wife... but, alas i just never connected to it. I'm just to "City" to farm. But, i think i have found the perfect combination to meet in the middle! We'll be using the enduring book, "The Civil War Diary Quilt" book as my guide. I instantly fell in love with the stories of the women living during the Civil War and the quilt blocks they inspired. They are tend to be more gritty, edgy, and more masculine looking in nature then the Farmer's Wife blocks ( though i lOVE "most" of them too ). Kinda like me! LOL

I'd love for you to join me and my lovely friends; Amanda, Lisa, and Shelly as we journey through this account of our American quilt history!!! :) We've started a little Flickr group to support our creations if you're interested in joining us!!

( please note: this book does not give you the math for the blocks and is a foundation pieced adventure, whether using freezer paper or fabric. Christmas is getting so close! my boys are home now and it's been a mad rotation of Harry Potter and Star Wars on constant repeat!! LOL Luckily, i like them both... so i haven't had to snap any DVD's... yet! :P

I recently received the most amazing swap item EVER from Angela... which has caused me to be a bit late in the "wrapping of the presents" event, so i can look at it longer... isn't she just a beauty!!!???

She also sent a gorgeous apron and coordinating ornament in this package too!!! I must take more photos!! hahaha

my packaged arrived safe and sound too... looking all Arizona sun warmed! hahaha...

and i've been keeping myself more than busy with the big 2012 re-shuffle of fabric that's taken over, while we moved around some furniture for the new treadmill the boy toy bought me! Lord knows my ass will be thanking him right after the New Year starts... even though my brain, kinda wants to poke him in the eyes now??...

soy-licious Candles!!

okay... as promised a little very basic Tutorial on my Soy Candles!

first... you must go vintage shopping and find some flashy glass goodness at your local Goodwill or Salvation Army!!

then you buy this! ( and only THIS!! ) hahah....

most of my glass wares held around 10 to 12oz... so, using a big o'le plastic ( never going to eat in it again ) measuring cup, filler up with your soy wax flakes! this will reduce once heated to 1/2 the size in liquid form! :) i usually eyeball mine!

using Soy Candle wicks that you will also purchase with your wax, secure it into your candle container!

okay... here's the fun/ tricky part ( if you will ) adding in the scents! i have done quite a bit of research on the theory behind the smells of candles and i will tell you none of it made any sense! LOL but, what i did figure out was that, i wanted to use Essential oils instead of Fragrance oils, because they were not chemically achieved. This did result in a lighter, but cleaner smell... which is my preference.

i used 4oz of Essential oil in each container... which can get spendy if you're buying them at a craft store, so i would suggest supporting your local Etsy sellers!! Feel free to mix scents too!! i used either Cloves or Peppermint in all of mine with a fruity addition to keep up a holiday feel!! yum!!

then, just pour it it in!

start lining up your beauties... and note your wicks will move on you a bit, but just try and keep them somewhat supported and balanced! you can do it!! :)

then let them rest until they set up ( not long at all!! a night resting would be enough to give your gifts away the next day!! ).

when you're ready... cut your wick down and wipe off all the extra messies & drips ( you may have made while filling them up )... easy peasy!! and super gorgeous!!

i think, i'm finally done with all my teacher's gifts... i love them all and i hope my boy's teachers know how much i appreciate all their efforts towards their success!!

ps... my oldest just received another 4.0!!! ( including high school algebra... he's in 8th grade!! ) i'm super proud!!

i'm all done with my swap package for the { SavVy } Season swap ( just in the nick of time too!! ). this was a super fun one to make for me!! i just lOVE Ashley's string block tutorial and i think it lent itself to my "Candy Cane" themed table runner perfectly!!

I also finished Mr. Band and Mrs. Algebra Zip Bags!!

now... back to candle making!! You're gonna cry when you see how cute my latest batch came out!! ( okay, that was probably an over statement... ) LOL

I must say... i've had a little, minimalist, design infatuation lately and i kinda love it a LOT!! Totally, doesn't help it's using one of my all time fav holiday collection... Happy Holiday by Monica Solorio-Snow!!! hahaha... Is it just me, or can simple be so much more stunning than super busy??

nothing says, "it's time to relax" like Lavender! Ever since my dear friend Mo made me a lovely Kashmir eye pillow/ sachet for my birthday this year, i have been in love with them! they are Yummy with a capital Y!!!

so, i thought it only fitting that i make them for all my children's teachers and aids for their Christmas gifts this season!! :) i purchased Lavender buds & oil at this little Etsy shop and filled my pot with a medley of rices...

it smelled amazing!!

i even made them in a variety of sizes and shapes... even little Matryoshka Dolls!! they might be my favorite??!! :)

i really appreciate my childern's teacher!!

i just love them and want to keep them super safe!! that's why all my boy's will be receiving first aid kits this Christmas using this pattern ( of course! ). i used fusible interfacing to give the zipper bag a firm, clean look that won't leave my men feeling like a bunch of ladies!! hahaha...

and how clever is it when an artist puts together these darling additions for all your projects??... UUUuummm... fantastically clever!!!

sigh... i felt so much better yesterday. That i sewed a little zippy bag and three sachet bags ( waiting on my lavender supplies to arrive! ) for a friend's Christmas gift and now i feel like sore poop again!

for all my Sister Sergers... one of the benefits of buying my serger was the new ability to serge my pillows during their construction, (after sewing the front and the back covers together), except... that i ran into a small question, do you all still snip your corners if you serge them??

I'm a little fanatical about my products that i sell and with my craft show creeping around the corner... i'd like to feel comfortable that my items are made thoroughly and worth everyone's hard earned money. Maybe you snip them and then serger???

What's your opinion on this... anyone?? :)

i really don't see any obvious advantage to snipping them, but i'd still like to be sure of the correct way! :)

luckily, i tend to give away LOT's of pillows as gifts, which always leaves me with extra pillow forms laying around... needing some clothes! LOL

i'll practice on my own, until i get it perfect for the craft fair though... hey! this may be a win/ win situation!

I was so unbelievably excited to be asked to create a Blogger's Choice bundle for the Fat Quarter Shop, I jump at the request!!! My months not until next April, but when I looked at all the new fabric lines coming out... I instantly knew which ones to choose!

I went for a {Haunted} Old Man Study look using Tula Pink's yet to be released Nightshade fabrics! They are gorgeous! Spooky girls in cameos... get gone! Then I selected a yummy mix of old man Prints, like hounds tooth and plaids! i just feel like trash! my youngest got the flu this past weekend, so yeah... no Yam Camp for me. and now, i just feel like a big o'l hot plate of poop. bleh...

before i fell prey to the ickness, i did make another bag for a friend and yes... i am using a pattern!! it's the MOST FABULOUS { Perfect Zip Bags } pattern that Elizabeth has just released!!

and i got the BEST new shipment of fabric in from The Fat Quarter Shop!! Dear Stella is singing my tune right now... dang this shiz is GOOD!

Finally, i was even able to list a few items in my Etsy Shop before i hit my limit today! I've got to start making more room in my house! ;)

i can honestly say without any reservations that I am a ding dong! I am far from perfect and in fact some days... i might even goes as far as to think, i may be far from even mediocre! LOL i still love me, but sometimes i want to spank my own ass for my ridiculous nature!

example you ask???... why sure... this week i actually flayed my knuckle ( on my dominate hand, pointer finger mind you ) on an aluminum can lid trying to dig out refried beans as fast as i could. yep, that's me... in all my glory of not paying attention to the task on hand, while attempting to use super human speed to achieve it! Uuugg...

thankfully, i have other hobbies ( like reading smutty books ) to keep me busy while i wait to heal from not only the finger, but the lovely tetanus shot i got to with it as a side note! love, i love me, i love me so much... ;P

bright side???... was that my mail days have been fabulous! If only i could sew, eh...

Distractions... with a capital D!

such a simple post today filled with naughty distractions! it's no wonder i've gotten a LOT of everything done... and finished absolutely none of them! LOL OOohhh... well, Monday's tomorrow and i have a good feeling about my efforts! :)

it all started last week when i stumbled across my new crica 1968 New Home Janome sewing machine! This beauty still had all her bits to her and she's a JANOME!!! i heart her sooOOOoo...

then a whole crop of patterns arrived to further add to my distractions... yet, i'm i feel pretty damn good about it! hahaha...

it didn't help i had to finish up a little swappy-poo item either...

or decide if my new bundles of Robert Kaufman Radiance was going to possible make the best patchwork quilt EVER!!???... which it IS! :P doesn't hurt that it looks like a Carmel Apple with Aneela Hoey's Little Apple fabric mixed in it!! LOL

and to top it off... anytime the family wants to pull me away from the household duties to partake in a little Autumn fun... i always go!

yeah... i'm thinking next week i''ll be better! ( wink, wink )

Interstate lOVE Song. the Quilt.

it dawned on me this weekend, that i've been hoarding one of my quilts from you... my Interstate lOVE Song Quilt... this one is a MUST have on my sofa! everyday. ;) why you ask... well kids, because not only is it made with the delish... Anna Maria Horner's Innocent Crush fabrics... but, the lovely Angela quilted in the lyrics to Stone Temple Pilot's Interstate Love Song ( which is my husband's and my song )!!!

I am a hopeless romantic and try very hard to squeeze any and all the passion i can muster up into my masculine world!! this is a perfect example of said efforts!! with the help of some lovely friends... Thanks Angela for your extreme attention to this quilt and Miss Duff for your clever suggestion of song Lyrics! I think we made a great team!! ;)

this is a very dear quilt to me!! I would love to give both of my boys a quilt with a secret message quilted with in it!! i better get busy! hahaha!!

sometimes i wish...

i was a poet. because then, i'd have the talent to turn yesterdays crap-tas-tic quilting adventure into a masterpiece of wisdom
( or some other such baloney ! )

all i wanted to do was prep my postage stamp quilt for my boy toy's Birthday today ( and yes, i actually did think i could whip this monster out with the help of my new serger... so naive of me! ) ... who knew, that it would take all stinkin day! ;P i really should have realized something was off ( and by something, i mean.... me! ) when it took almost an hour of pulling fabrics to decide on the sashing???

and since this quilt is very Deep in color, kinda Dreamy and Romantic looking to me... i grabbed my very favorite Ikea flat sheet to back it with! most of you know what a sheet floozy i truly am! i have to have a soft/ satin-ish feeling backs on my quilts... i just have too! i love it soooOOOoo much!

that's when the fun ended for the day though... because in a complete brain fart moment during a ridiculous sale at Joann's Fabric, I thought i'd try there 80/20 blend of batting! wrong move. real wrong. never again kinda wrong... ya feel me! now, maybe some of you all have the magic touch with this stuff, but i clearly do not. in fact, i'll give you the three words i was snarling all day while working with said batting.

now add some basting spray and you've got yourself... one big o'le cussing party of fun on a 70 X 80" quilt! Let's just all say a quick prayer of "thanks", that my children were at school for that little show!! can we??... good grief! Thankfully, i did beat that hurdle and my quilt is prepped and ready to be quilted... thankfully, i'm so thankful it's over... thank you quilt for being sandwiched!

now... to go try to make a cake from scratch! and i'm so not a baker... i feel round two coming up pretty solidly for me today! sigh... hope's yours will be less challenging!! LOL

i love to talk smack to... everything, really... but, especially my sewing projects!!! :P so, yesterday when i was deciding what to sew that i could use my new serger on and not be completely stressed out about it, i thought stuffed pillow... duh! so, i whooped up a little patchwork pillow pattern ( The Orb ) and threw this puppy together! easy peasy!

i have always steered away from rounded projects, mostly because i have two rowdy boys that i was just sure would split the seams out with their shenanigans... leaving me seething for strength not to murder them, but with my serger... the party was on! jump away boys... nothings gonna split this baby open! LOL

i am kinda still freaking out over this whole thing!!! EEEeek!

has opened and not only did i walk through it... i went through it running, screaming, and waving my hands about like an idiot! one weekend of sewing with my Yams Violet & Traci and this is what happened...

the boy toy bought me a Serger!!! holy shiz... i never thought this day would happen... i've been so deathly afraid of these machines ( with their scary mini knife... chomp, chomp and all! LOL ) that i've avoided even attempting to sew clothes...

but, i say it proud now... I WILL SEW CLOTHES! LOL

OMGosh... tell me they don't look so cute together!!! like Mama & Baby Janome! hahaha...

it was kinda an interesting weekend...

car got officially totalled... that sucked.

went to Ikea and got some new cupboards for my stash... that rocked.

had a TV commerical audition ( first time ever! )... that was bizarre!

thinking i'd like to sew now... yep!

couldn't get it all in the new cupboards... i'm such a sick junkie. i still have 6 of these slid under my bed... but the main course is available to gaze at and ponder! :)

me & jen took some silly shots of me after i got my audition call (happened during a SHY play date)... and let me just say... i am one good ass friend... because these are the only pictures I can apparently show of our night since, when i went to download the pics... I found a LOT of YAM bootie!! I have a feeling someone was a bit cheeky! ( jen…??? ;)

they are always memorable, right... completely blissful! i realized this week, i was kinda having a few...

like using the luxurious { Radiance } by Robert Kaufman!!! hello... yummy, silky/ satiny, smooth, heaven made into a fabric! i seriously can't even imagine the fighting over the quilt made with these between my boys! hugh... maybe this was a bad idea?? shit.

picked up my first purchase of Tula Pink's Prince Charming at Sew Mama Sew this week too! i have a few Princes in my house ( wink, wink )!!

started my first EVER quilt kit from the Fat Quarter Shop!! i'm such a fan of Sweetwater girls at Moda ( met them at market and they are awesome, just sayin! ) someone is going to get one hell of a present for Christmas this year!

OOoohhhh yeah... even ironed and prepped a few quilt tops laying around ( i'm never that organized! ) hahaha...

and i totally recognized... that this will be my first table topper EVER! period. why have i never made one before??...

and the grand finale... i totally bought yarn and hooks! can you just die...?? yeah, me too! but, i saw this super cool online, tutorial thingy on Pinterest... to teach you how to crochet in one month starting on Oct 1st and thought... time to pull up those big girl panties Heather! so here's to either succeeding or drinking heavily! ( either way... i'm a winner!! )

sometimes they don't attract, really... they just simply piss you off. my brother is the complete opposite of me... i don't even think i need to go there with you all, but i'd imagine you can get the picture clearly enough! so, when he asked for throw pillows this year for his Birthday and i made them... after another classic episode with him this past weekend, this is what he got.

my passive aggressive, older sister, spanking... hence, the Opposites Pillows! OOOhhh... yeah, with a backing of rotten tomatoes! i think he'll learn a valuable lesson about how he treats me! :P

Oaks Park Quilt.

Thanks for all your sweet messages towards the mini situation i experienced last week!! hahaha... i wasn't in the car when it was hit, so really... it could have been so much worse, it's hard to complain about the inconvenience. :)

however, i did get a minute to finish up my Oaks Park baby quilt this weekend, and i will admit... it's a bitter sweet ending for me. i rarely make baby size quilts, cause i have no babies! but, i'm going to try to brake my rule more often to get a chance to play with my yummy Heather Ross fabrics!

now that this quilt is finished, and i'm loving it, but again... have no baby, ( bleh )... it really would be silly to keep it. ;( so, hopefully when i put it on Etsy... someone will buy it and love it as much as i do!?? hehehe...

i can't wait to see what happens this week! LOL

i really do love me! i love my crazy adhd, manic, loving, loyal, urban personality. it's what makes me... me! it's also gives me the appreciation for what i'm not, which gives me the ability to love you! EVERYone is unique and brings a different flavor to the party... damn. it's just right, right! LOL

i finished up my out lining of my newest tattoo today... and i also had my car smashed in, in a hit and run. and that, folks... it what keeps you balanced between super cloud nine and reality. it's a ridiculous mix that may only suit me, but that's cool... i'll still take mine any day of the week! ;)

so instead of looking at my own art being created, i'll be looking at your's the next couples days and gazing with an extremely, jealous nature.. wishing i could be with you having a blast!

now this is was seriously autumn quilt! i knew Melody Miller's new fabric line Ruby Star Rising 2 was going to gorgeous, but i never knew it would hurt so good! (and yes, this is me being cheeky... juiced up on caffeine first thing in the morning! LOL) although, i was given 3 half yards cuts from her new line, due to the additional expense of this lovely fabric and generous size of it... i only used 2 of them for this entire quilt with a little help from fab Kona solids, linen, and quilters linen

(and this little puppy's 60" X 60")!!

Melody also made this fantastic video to share with everyone based on Deborah, from Whipstitch, design for a bee skirt!!! Too friggin cute!

i don't know about you all... but, i know it took me a long time to be comfortable in my own style. it's actually really hard ( in my opinion ) because i have so many talented friends that are the most amazing color artists and i just simple want everything that make too! but, in the end try as i might... i still don't love reds, purples and pinks in my home ( love them for gifts though!!! ). however, they only last about 3 days here and then i pull them all out of my house and put back my blues, aqua, greens and neutrals. i've since deemed this style { Old Man Study Chic }... it's just my thing i guess, cause i lOVE it sooo much!!... ;)

anyways, autumn is now upon us and i'll be damned if i make the same mistake again and pull out my warm tones... hence my new plan of action... the blue Autumn... isn't she smart.

now to go pull some fabulous fabrics for some lovely additions to my home!!

Complete hogwash, really. I’ve been experiencing this biz for about 2 months now… and I’m just now fully pissed. I can’t leave a comment on anyone’s blog! Blogger claims to not be “able to allow me”. What in the double hockey stick does that mean?? I’ve been anonymously attempting to give blog love forever, but am utterly getting sunk by the blogs that don’t have that option. UUugggGGG!!

i am so excited about this quilt! it's actually my first "celebration" quilt. it's beyond rare that i have a friend who is having a baby or getting married ( we all decided to do that gig in our early twenties! ) so, when i found out my sister-in-law's was getting married and the wedding is this Saturday... i just knew she needed a quilt!! :)

she used to take the most wonderful vacation to Cabo San Lucus with her Mom and my Husband's Dad ( her step-father for 25 years ) and since we lost him last winter to cancer, i thought it might be sweet to make her a quilt that embodied the their time together at the sea. my Husband's Dad and Step-Mom had a wonderful marriage and i hope hers and her soon to be husband share the same great romance.

( ps... i would love to thank my good friend Kristin for always caring the most classy fabrics in her store! she makes it so easy to envision my designs through her shop's selection, YOU're the bestest!! )

can you??? can you feel that summer ( for my children... and your's ) is almost over! YES! very soon... i'll be able to taste it too and that's when it will be time to party! i adore my children, but this is the part of the summer where, " i'm bored " has become as irritating as the "small world " song from Disneyland!!! LOL

and after that last quilt i finished ( i'll picture soon ), i think i found my mojo again!! double YES!! there are definitely two projects i just can't resist anymore, so i've been working ( and by working, of course that means screwing around ) with both of them as much as time will allow!

i have been itching... ITCHING, i tell you to use my Melody Miller Ruby Star Rising 2 fabrics... you can grab some here. I'm only using a half yard of two different prints for this quilt and solids. i really wanted a fall quilt and i just think this may be perfection when completed!

i had thought i'd be going a bit more { green } with it originally, but then the Autumn bug bit me and i went with plums...

i have also been going silently mad over all those ( Swoon Quilt ) blocks showing up around town... dang, they are just GOOD! Here's some of my fav's... you can click on the image to see more quilty goodness from the artists!! ;)

Today class…

I would like to tell you a story about a girl named Silly. She was a clever girl (even though her name could allow people to assume otherwise) however, she always seemed to find her way through the big, scary world. It was only recently that she had a bit of a stumble and fell down. Silly found herself looking around as if she had become lost in an imaginary place (a very strange world indeed).

See, Silly noticed in her 30’s that not all is what it seemed to be. In truth she found it perplexing as she circled for the knowledge that her other Friends; like Disciplined, Consistent and Stable seemed to know and be doing in this new age. It was a strange activity called running. What was this sweaty, tiring hobby that these girls had picked up and were now continuously doing? Silly only preferred to spend her time sewing, reading and drinking of the sweet booze. It was such a strange concept to her. To NOT do these things in order to partake in this otherwise, awful time sucker?

But then the world seemed to stop spinning around Silly and she saw a straight path of truth, clear as day (could have been the morning after a nice bottle of wine??? That part of the story is still unclear.) And Silly looked down. And do you know what she found… a muffin top! Now kids, I’m not describing the soft, edible kind at your local Starbucks, I’m talking about the kind that sticks up and over your skinny jeans for all others to point out and ridicule.

That’s when Silly recognized what truly was going on around her; you see class, apparently you must do this “running” thing in your 30’s to avoid the terrible “muffin top” from growing on your body. Who knew, Silly always assumed like in her 20’s and teen’s, she could continue to eat and drink anything without falling victim to this disturbing bodily growth. Yeesh…

So, class… the moral of this story is quite simple. Silly pulled up her big girl panties, then ran 5.5 miles today, has recently lost a dress size, and all while still being able to indulge in some tasty wine this evening (and many others of course!) with her husband, all because she picked herself up when she had a little stumble and ran. Thus YOU all can too!

(cause Silly secretly cusses the entire time while doing thus nonsense! hehehehe...)

Ps… Silly also finished a quilt this week. (Wink, wink)

who has homework in the summer you ask??... OOhhh... yeah, that'd be me! It was bound to happen considering my slug-a-licious sewing behavior these past few months. but, it could be worse i suppose... i could have to do something quite awful like my children and go back to middle school! ha! suckers!! LOL just kidding boys... Mommy loves you! wink, wink!!

regardless... it's just simply stacking up! hahaha...

apparently in one of my fashionable tantrums this summer... i decided, i needed a pink quilt. i think that was a month ago. i don't even like pink!

yeah... and while sitting poolside with my boys, thought i finally start sewing together my hexie pillow... still in strips. can you guess where this post is going??... ;)

OOhhh... and i surely picked up some fanTASTical Laminate Happy Mochi Yum Yum by my lovely Sister Yam Monica this summer too!!... all for Ashley's fab tote tutorial!! and, yes...this project really DOES peeve me off that it's still sitting on my ironing board! GGgrrr....

It's just sooOOOOooo painful to continue... but, here goes...

since, me and the Yammies meet at Sew, Mama, Sew... i couldn't help falling hard for these lovely coastal fabrics when i saw them in person... sigh... can you just see the drunk love possibilities, so chic!

and you can't even make a quilt pattern, let alone my new place mats ( in my very biased opinion ) with out the lovely Peacock Lane by my other equally fabulous Yammy Sister, Miss Violet Craft!

then why don't you just throw on a mound of "hurt all" on top with the amazingly ridiculous Ruby Star Rising 2 from the very talented Melody Miller!! i need to be punished for not yet cutting into these yet...

yep... i've been real bad. pretty sure i have a big o'le { F } for the summer sewing. Maybe, well... if you all would... possible stop being creative for like a month... i could catch up??? it would certainly help me finish with Lotta Jansdotter's new Echo line. i'm just saying... if you could??...

either way... please say i'm not the only one???... i could use a crew of "should, coulda, woulda" to hang with!

1001 Peeps Summer Camp! It's Peeps-A-Licious!!!

When Lizzy asked me to be a part of her Summer Camp for 1001 Peeps… I was more than a little excited! See… when I went to Spring Market this year her presentation on her inspiration for this line was my super fav! In fact, after getting home I purchased Arabian Nights to read the stories she spoke about and reference in her line… lOVE them!

That’s when I knew I wanted to make a tutorial for a “Reader”. Our family reads many, many books through the year, but especially in the summer! Being that I have only boys, I did make a more masculine project, however… you could easily exchange some of the fabrics with other colorways from her yummy line! Hope you find it to be as smart and classic as Lizzy’s new line. If you need some... you can find it here.

*** Please note this Pattern is for the smaller version "black" Kindle reader. ***

Let’s get Crafty… shall we!!??? Hehehe….

Materials Needed:

Front fabric – (1) 6.5” X 9.5”

Backing fabric – (1) 6.5 X 9.5”

Pocket fabric – (1) 6.5” X 14”

Lining fabric – (2) 7” X 9.75”

Fusible Interfacing – (2) 6.5” X 9.5

1” Diamond Paper Pieced templates - (6)

Diamond fabric – (7” scrap piece)

Button

Rubber Band

Embroidery Thread

You can purchase your Diamond Templates here. I'm going to very quickly demonstrate how to sew these English Paper Pieced templates together, however... you will receive more detailed directions within your purchased package to address any concerns you might have in the process.

First, you'll take your templates and pin them to the wrong side of the fabric, allowing at least 1/4" of overage.

Basting Diamonds:

Taking the diamond, folding the fabric over the exposed template at the side point and insert your needle. (remember to knot your thread before beginning each template)

As you move around each Diamond's sides, you can either adjust your pin or simply remove it (which is what i do, but you obviously must be careful not to allow your template to slip out of position! LOL)

Continue with this process until you have basted each side and then simply tie the thread off.

Joining the Diamonds:

This process is very similar to sewing Hexagons together. (if you'd like a better example of this process, you can look it up here.) Remembering to backstitch at the beginning and at the ending of each side, simply place your diamonds Right side to Right side and sew them together using a ladder stitch.

After sewing all 6 diamonds together, you'll end up with a fancy pants Star. ;)

Now grab your Pocket Fabric and fold it in half (lengthwise), press, and sew a 1/8" top stitch along the fold.

Up next, grab your Fusible Interfacing (I used a pretty thick one and it was a real pain to work with, but gives me my desired overall preferred look... stiff! hahaha... you could use a less thick product or even fleece, if you'd prefer.) and your Front & Backing fabric. Iron the Interfacing onto the wrong sides of each of those fabrics. ( remember to follow the suggested ironing interfacing directions that is provided with the product.)

I added some simple straight line quilting to these project pieces, to add some extra detailing while giving them some additional support.

Now grab your fancy pants Star, remove your basting threads (I use a seam ripper) and press all your unruly fabrics tabs & threads inward. Also, don't panic, they always look like a little "hot mess" on the backs after this process!! LOL

Pin your star to your Pocket Fabric.

Using a ZigZag Stitch, sew the Star on the Pocket. (I went around mine twice, just for the look! :P )

Ta'da!

At this point, grab your Embroidery Thread and a little detailing to your Star, if you'd like. (I used thread that coordinated with my lining fabric.

Pin your Pocket to your Front side fabric and give baste them together using 1/8" seam.

Time to take your Backing fabric and Front fabric, Right side to Right side, pin in place and sew 1/4" seam. (remember to backstitch!)

Snip your corners.

and Flip that beauty inside out!

Button time! Grab your button, place it in the middle of your Outside cover and mark it (Remember... You'll have a 1/4" seam from the top of the Outside Cover and to Leave the appropriate amount of space to support it between your button and the top.). Using your coordinating Embroidery Thread, sew your button on filling up your holes, so the Thread color pops!

We're cooking now! Grab your Lining fabric and pin them together Right side to Right side!

Sew 1/4" seam on both sides and across the bottom. Leave a good 3" opening to pull your Stiff outside pocket through and DON'T forget to backstitch this part!! (You will be man-handling this area later!! LOL)

Slide your Lining over the Outside cover, Right side to Right side.

Using your pre-sewn button as a guide, mark off with a pin where to place your Rubber Band.

Slip your Lining off your Outside cover. Using your sewing machine; line up your Rubber Band with the marking pin, pinching it in place with your fingers, and leaving an approximate 2/3rds of the Rubber Band facing the inside of the Lining, sew it in place.

You'll be using the Rubber Band frequently, so I suggest going over it many time to keep it secure.

Sliding your Lining fabric back over your Outside Cover, pin in place. Sew 1/4" seam around the perimeter.

Here's the Grand Finally time!... Now, pull your Outside Cover through the Lining hole!!

Simply sew your lining seam closed with an 1/8" seam and tuck inside the Outside Cover! Give it a little press (being careful not to touch your Rubber Band) and Presto! YOU're done!!

You'll have yourself one swanky, 1001 Peeps-A-Licious Kindle Cover for all your's or your loved one's favorite stories this summer!!

welp... pretty sure that sums up my summer sewing and blogging! absolutely pathetic results through these past couple of months! but, to keep it real.. my head and heart's, just not in it right now. i'm pretty sure this is normal ( or at least, that's what i like to tell self. ) either way... i think i feel some mojo coming back, but you never know with a free spirit like me! hahaha...

i decided in my laziness, that my attempt at the Japanese + and x quilt... really should be two new pillows for my couch. and even though i do completely realize that i'm being a slug, i do actually feel legit with my decision! ;P

plus, i really wanted to start my Postage Stamp Quilt! I worked on cutting these sweet, little puppies up all weekend with my Sweet Hot Yams at the Sister's Quilt show. God love them! they even fed the insanity, by bringing me more scraps! kiss kiss, Elizabeth!!

soooOOOOoo... i took the plunge.

I really didn't want to, but apparently i don't get a choice to turn 34. who knew??? well... being the rebel that i am, i told "self" to stick it! i'm still a kid at heart... so, remembering my naughty glory days... i rolled up to my local bad ass tattoo parlor ( you know Portland... where the tattoo ink never runs dry! ) and had the very slick Karina Figueroa design a custom tattoo based off of my two favorite Heather Ross Mendocino images. The swimming { mermaid } sister & the giant squid! I'm in lOVE! though i won't show you all of it on me ( even i have my limits ), i will say it is a back piece and with Karina's talented gift toward her lady faces... i can only image how sweet the ending will be!

Here's to NOT taking getting older laying down!

when it's summer, i'm barely around! with my boys being home, family get-a-ways, lazy reading days, and crazy tedious quilt projects... i can only shamelessly admit, blogging is the last thing on my mind. ;P

my only real goal is to visit all the blogs left on my comments in the other post and start a new blog roll... other than that, this is it kids! hahaha... random, silly, pop in's! don't worry though, i'll certainly post after i get my new tattoo on next Monday ( i know you were super worried!! ) Especially since it's based off one of my favorite fabric designers ( wink, wink )!

and ps... this quilt is taking for-freaking-EVER! LOL

it's pretty embarrassing that i didn't even recognize how long it had been since i blogged last, until i received a kind push from a reader yesterday! LOL Kinda makes me think about what i just recently found in my house too!... on my living room lamp, no less...!!! hahahha... can you tell i've been a bit preoccupied??? yeesh... i am the worst lately!

but, that my friends... is this time of year, the transition into summer ( hence last of your child/school obligations to fill within a 2 week time! ). Luckily, we are done and i'm very proud to say my oldest, kept his 4.0 the entire year! which then gave his Mama ( that'd be ME! ) my bumper sticker!! Such a proud moment when i slapped that mother on the back of the o'le station wagon! hehehe....

i also decided that i couldn't stand to work in my cluttered studio anymore, not even for one more stinkin day! so i ripped everything out of it and built a new little sitting area! thanks Ikea... you've treated me well once again, bless you!

i wish i could say i've had more time to sew, but in the big picture... i've only made a few pillow covers...

played with Monica's new Happy Mochi Yum Yum!! ( which kicks ass! )...

and started a new quilt... the very fabulous Japanese + & X!! this one may end up being one of my all time favorites that i've done! check out the Flickr group for more inspiration and directions on how to make yours!

i hope you guys are getting more sewing done than myself, cause lord knows... it's a bit pathetic over here right now! hahaha... don't worry though, at least i'm not in denial over my short comings! Today's a perfect example of that! i should be finishing up projects, but instead i'm off to a tattoo parlor with some of my favorite Fabric Designers images to start my sleeve. enough said, right??? LOL

they are crazy little things, right!... i have often pondered how peeps choose who they include on their blog rolls and why... have you? So... i figured that today, while adjusting my blog, i would share my theory on it.

my blog roll if full of the blogs i can "find" to read. it's simple and lazy! hahaha... i still have no idea how to work Google Reader ( yes, pathetically true! ), so if you are not on my blog roll... most likely i'll have no way to find you! how sad is that! i know i am missing out on some wonderful blogs too and i'm not very happy about it! ( insert sour face here! )

so my new plan... tell you all the truth about my inadequacies and maybe you'll leave your blog addy here in this post as a comment, so i can start following you! I'll be adjusting my blog roll to inquire lots more of my favorite designers and bloggers! i just love some good o'le people watching... don't you!

Anywhoo... hope you are all having a great start to your summer, i've done nothing too special ( and by special, i mean crafty ) so, i'll just leave you with a typical "Heather" photo until next time! LOL

i love them... i try to dabble in them daily, i really can't help myself about it either! hahaha... here's some of my recent ones! ;)

I have been engrossed with documentaries lately... ( clearly watching too many! ) That when i was designing new pillows the other day for my living room, i could only think of ticks = Lyme disease ( thanks, Under Your Skin ). Which is not even remotely funny, but that I let it control my design, wull that kinda is... hence my newest addition to my collection of funky throw pillows! LOL

my friend Mr. Thomas took this classic picture of me and Miss Aneela at market goofing off! She was "drawing me" with the massive British Pen that Miss Katy brought me! We are clown apples for sheba!

i also decided at Market that my favorite new fabric lines were based on the most important question... "does it match my nail polish???" now, i know what you're thinking, "Heather... YOU are so cutting edge!" i kid, i kid!! LOL... but, these are my favorites!! ;)

it's sound logic, right! i mean... how terrific are these new lines! h.e.a.v.e.n.!!

laminates. lOVE them! lOVE. period! this fabric is an Oregonian's dream... we have a little something we like to call, "rain" here... have you heard of it??? yeah, well we usually get it, oOOOoohhh... say, nine months out of the year! yuck, right???... but this Market i was introduced to laminates by Jennifer Pagenelli of Sis Bloom and my life changed! Not only does a TRUE Oregonian except the rain, they learn to like it... or they move (we don't like adult crybabies). true. But, this little invention (which i realize may only be new to me! hahaha...) is going to make my attitude about said topic, so much easier to live with!

couple things i didn't know... so, maybe you all didn't either??? laminates are not oilcloth. it's thinner, soft, and easy to sew with! i whipped up a slouchy { River } bag today for a darling friend of mine's birthday next week... and i think it took me all of about an hour! and knowing this nutty friend, who digs hiking and going to our beautiful rivers with her 5 kids all summer... this is the perfect bag for her! it won't get DIRTY! seriously!... this is slick stuff!! ( ha! get it... slick???... )

Thank gosh peeps have been covering the booths and new fabric lines quite well in their blog posts... as i've enjoyed seeing them again ( sometimes even for the first time! )! hahaha... i would have loved to build onto those with additional clever photos of art... but in reality, when i got home from market... i only had the typical market shenanigans photos on my camera! i wish i could be more surprised by this, but that's just sooOOOoo me! LOL

To save myself a butt-load of time, i'm just going to play a little game with you all! called... { Can you guess the people in the pictures??? } Please send me an email not a comment to alamodefabric@gmail.com with your guesses and i will draw a winner from them! what will you win for said effort.... last night with my yammies... prepping for SLC Quilt Market! I'm just so green... with super fun envy! OOOhhh... poop. i may just have to go... it feels like i may miss out on prom! but, prom with new fabric, patterns, and booze! hehehe....

and look what arrived from my adorable friend Amber! She makes the best stuff EVER!

MMMMmmm... yeah and on the down low, this is truly the only sewing i've done this past week... one new curtain! pathetic... just pathetic! LOL

Officially it started yesterday, but who wants a kick off to start on a Sunday?? Right??? Okay then. But it’s game time kids! Mama needs sheds some lbs before summer truly hits, needs to spring clean (which includes more destashing!), and dive into the writing process of her “secret project”. ( i'm been clearing out that mess of a sewing space to make seating area for friends this summer to enjoy with me... i grabbed my all time favorite fabric from Ikea this weekend to make new curtains for the space! )

( my collectible fabrics have been reorganized and waiting for their instructions... should i go or should i stay??? )

So, I’ve had to make some tough choices to keep myself on track and be an adult. Yeesh… Even typing that word scares me! Hahaha… this is the last month that my blog will be a sponsored blog. I adore and have the most amazing relationships with my sponsors, but with all things considered… I truly felt I couldn’t support them the way they deserve to be through this time. I also will be backing off of the amount of posts on my blog too. Much as I would love to sit around and dilly-dally all day long, I’m just not going to have that luxury for a bit. However, my side bar will always lead you to another party… They are truly the cleverest crafters I’ve met. ;) ( speaking of parties... Miss Angela finished my STP quilt and now i need only to bind it before i can have a "special fling" with my boy toy wrapped up in it! )

Now, I know I have the best readers ( FRIENDS ) out there in La-bloggy-land and I do hope you’ll hang with me during this!.... cause, it’s kinda like being grounded as a teenager for a month and hoping you still get the big invite to “Josh’s Summer Kick Off Party” when you’re freed! you know, you knowwhat i mean, hugh! LOL ( a blessed reader sent me this trinket last week! i soOOOooo lOVE it! )

( and just for kicks... i've decided my new Hillary hair more resembles some kinda butchered Farrah cut now! but, i think i've i finally embraced the fugly and just laugh at the entire event! ) ;)
